Never in my life have I been this close to any owl in the wild, let alone the elusive Great Gray. This was one of the most moving experiences of my life. I sat quietly in the forest, alone, hoping to see an owl and after 90 minutes this beauty slipped silently through the evening air and landed 30 feet from me. I asked myself if this was really happening while scrambling with my camera and tripod. One of the largest owls in the world, the Great Gray stands nearly two feet tall and boasts a 50 inch wingspan. These beautiful raptors range from Canada to northern Wyoming. Northwestern Wyoming.
